About Us

The Black Walnut Country Inn is located in the beautiful rolling hills of Pennsylvania's Pocono Region, on a 160-acre estate, surrounded by pine, oak and maple forest, as well as the black walnut trees that give the Inn its name. The century-old main house has 12 guest bedrooms and 1 cabin with antique furnishings and brass beds, many from the historic Milford area.

The Black Walnut Inn was originally built in 1897 as the homestead of the Emery Family. It was purchased and renovated into a bed and breakfast by Stewart Schneider in 1982. Stewart and his family have been running it as a country Inn/B&B ever since.  The main building is a Tudor-style stone house, with historic marble fireplace originally from the estate of Governor Gifford Pinchot.

In the original part of the house, which is now used as a living room/gathering area, you will find a hand carved Italian marble fireplace, which originally belonged to the estate of Governor Gifford Pinchot, and was given to the Emery Family who worked as masons on what is now the Grey Towers Historic Landmark.

Stewart's daughter Robin and her husband William Jara  are the current Innkeepers. Robin returned home after many years to run the family business in which she grew up, and is currently raising her own children.  Guests who return year after year have seen Robin grow up before their eyes and are now bringing their own families to the Black Walnut Inn, creating treasured memories and becoming part of the Inn's history.

The Black Walnut Inn has hosted visitors from all over the world, as well as neighbors from our own backyard who are looking for a local getaway.  We are a trilingual facility (English, Spanish and American Sign Language) and we are alternative lifestyle-friendly.
