The Black Walnut Inn ,
“The Poconos best kept secret” |
|
|

The Black Walnut Inn has been family-owned and run for over 26 years. We are located in the beautiful rolling foothills of Pennsylvania's Pocono Region, on a 160-acre estate, surrounded by pine, oak and maple forest, as well as the black walnut trees that give the Inn its name. The Olson and Emery families settled these homesteads in the mid 1800’s, and their buggies and horse drawn sleighs were still in the carriage sheds when the Schneider’s bought the property where the stables are now located, in the late 1960’s. The original stone field dividers, many covered with boysenberries, blueberries, and red raspberries, can still be found, as well as the offspring of original apple and wild cherry trees. The main house was built in 1897 as the homestead of the Emery Family. It was purchased and renovated into a bed and breakfast by Stewart Schneider in 1982. Stewart and his family have been running it ever since.
Stewart's daughter Robin, and her husband William Jara, are the current Innkeepers. Robin returned to Milford after living on the west coast, to run the family business and raise her own her own children in the home in which she grew up. Guests who return year after year have seen Robin, her children, as well as their own children, grow up as part of the Black Walnut family, creating treasured memories and becoming part of the Inn's history.

The main building is a century-old farm house in the Tudor style. Made with local stone, it has 12 guest bedrooms and a dining room with a panoramic view of the property. There is 1 cabin and 1 Suite for rent that do allow pets. The Inn, Cabin and Suite, are mostly furnished with antiques and brass beds, many from the historic Milford area.
